Weekend Wrap Oct 30th

Rather than recapping my week( which was very uneventful) I am going to recap my weekend. Friday I had to teach RPM class in the morning then I had to work the rest of the day. I was happy to have gotten off at a decent time because the following morning I planned to run the Wicked 10k(recap coming).

Saturday morning I got up very early to run the race. When I came home after the race, I actually took a nap because I had plans that evening to go to a haunted house. Every weekend in October my friend and I have been going to different Halloween events in the area. Last weekend we went to Hallow Screams in Busch Garden. This week we took a tour on the Nauticus in Norfolk VA that had an Alien Theme. It was ok but I thought they could have made it a bit scarier.

It wasn’t too late when we finished so we thought we would look up other haunted houses that were close by. We came across Haunted Acres. It sounded good, but we thought it was a bit odd because it was in a strip mall that was just rented out for the month. We waited two hours in line for this.  I thought to myself this better be good. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The reason it took so long was because they were only letting groups of 3 and 4 go in at a time so they could get the full affect.
We were warned that the actors were even able to touch you. We went through several rooms in this haunted house and each room the actors did a little skit. After the last room(which we didn’t know was the last room at the time) we were told to crawl through this tunnel not knowing what was waiting on the other side. When we stood up it was pitch black and we could not see anything. We realized it was maze and we were on own to figure how to get out. I felt like we were just going in circles and running into other people that were trying to figure their way out as well.
Finally after what we thought took forever, we found a door that looked like just a wall but pushed on it and lucked out. We were finally out of the maze. We were the only ones in our group that figured that out. Of course we were super quiet and didn’t say anything when we found the exit. I wonder how long those other people took to figure it out. I think it was one of the best Haunted House we have been to during the season and it was worth the wait.

The next day I slept in and when I finally got up and around I thought I would go for a longer run because I didn’t have any plans until later that evening. I was hoping to do something in the double digit range. Last week I did 10 miles and I only had one of my water bottles filled in my hydration pack and I could have used both of them, so I made sure I filled both of them up and threw some pretzels thins and gummies in my pack and I was off.

Normally I don’t have anything too exciting happening on my runs so I don’t share every run I do, but since I was doing a longer run maybe there would be. Recently I was listening to Another Mother Runner and the ladies were saying what their monthly totals were for finding change during their runs. I thought to myself how come I never find any. I need to start keeping an eye out. I was about 5 and half miles into my run and I thought I should refuel, so I began to walk and eat my pretzels. Well what do you know, I look down and I find a nickel…..score! A few feet ahead I find a penny. Not that this is much at all, but I was excited. After I picked up my change and finished my pretzels I was on my way back home. I felt like I was going at a pretty good pace at this point. I don’t know if I was just happy because of what I found on my run, or one of my favorite songs playing on my Ipod at this time, but I didn’t have my eyes opened to my surrounding during this time, and my foot ended up slipping into an empty Wendy’s French fry container and I almost wiped out! After this happened I was a little more cautious during my three miles back home. I ended up with just 11 miles completed on my watch. I am happy with that. I am looking forward to our racecation this coming weekend.  -L

  1. I always pick up change on my run, but I never thought to tally it up! I'll need to start doing that!

About 5 or 6 years ago, I took my boys and 2 friends of theirs to the scariest haunted house ever. Seriously. I peed my pants in one room where there was a car with bright headlights and the loudest horn. Clowns everywhere. I couldn't wait to get out of there. My boys loved it, but one of the friends was so traumatized by it that he couldn't sleep for a while after. His mom called me, pretty upset. I had no idea what we were heading into!

    1. Oh my that does sound scary. The only thing I do not like is when they get in your face and scream. They have to have a sore throat by the end of the night.

  2. I'm impressed... I generally avoid haunted houses of any kind! My imagination is creative enough, I don't need to give it any more ideas when I'm home alone. :)

Great job getting in 11 miles!

  4. What a fun thing to do, go to all the haunted houses in your area! Well, fun for you - I don't like getting scared too much. That last room sounded interesting and it's cool that you guys didn't let on when you found your way out, LOL!

I collect change on my runs - usually it's just in the nickel and dime range, so whenever I happen to come across a quarter, I feel like I've struck it rich!

  7. Haunted houses make me so anxious. I'm ready to jump at any moment. I never even think to pick up change on a run!

  8. I've only been to one haunted house (maybe two??), and that was enough for me. I get too freaked out, and worry I"ll have dreams about it later LOL I don't even like scary movies for the same reason

  10. Ive never thought to pick up change on my run, but one time I found $20! I don't think I would like haunted houses. I never liked them as a kid and I think they would still make me nervous.

  11. That haunted house sounds crazy!!!! I used to love to go to universal for the halloween event there but it just got so crowded and I could not tell which creeps were the actors and who came in looking like that! LOL!

  12. I've never found any change on any of my runs. Maybe I'm running the wrong area. I've never done a Haunted House, but the Busch Gardens sounds like fun. Theme park Halloween is more my thing, I mean, I get to trick or treat at Disney so that's fun.

  13. I haven't been to a haunted house in years. That one sounds like a doozy. What if someone totally freaked out in there?? Occasionally I find change, but not too often.

  14. There's no telling how much money I pass over on my runs because I just never look down that much! :) As to the Haunted House...I would have died in the maze! I tend to panic in situations like that. Hate haunted houses...just hate them!

  15. Like Darlene, I have also found a $20 while running. I usually don't pick up the change. We have a haunted farm (actual farm) close by that is too intense for me. I do pretty good at those type things only if I don't have to hear the sounds. Have fun at Wine & Dine! Thanks for linking, Lacey.

  16. Good luck to you both this weekend! Safe travels too!
The haunted house sounds so fun, I haven't been to one this year last year I went to several. I like taking my young nieces and nephews to them, yes its cruel, but oddly fun to terrify them a little even though I make sure they know its fake, LOL

  17. Dang this sounds like so much fun! I loooove haunted houses and we make an annual trip every year to visit some. One a week would be right up my alley! I was a little disappointed this year I think if the actors could touch you it would give it a better experience. I went to a smaller one where we had to find out way out of one too. This one was quite interesting as it was pitch black and there were boards we had to crawl over and under, ummm some we walked into so I'm not sure how safe it was but it was something for sure! Glad you had fun, I'm already thinking of next year where we can go!
