Destination Races

First off, Thank you to all of you who read through our post yesterday. I know it was a bit longer than usual but it was quite a story!

Anyway, the theme for TOTR is Destination Races. As you may know, destination races are our jam! We've done more destination races than we've done local races. I think that stems from the fact that our first race was at Disney so apparently our expectations were set high! Besides, it's a great excuse for a girls weekend or a weeks vacation.

Yes, destination races can be pricey but like anything in life, you get what you pay for. To us, it's not just about the road (or trail) we are running on, it's the whole experience and most of the time that includes spending time with family. We've done countless destination races with each other and our parents and have made memories that we will never forget, like running down the Las Vegas strip with our dad during Rock n Roll Las Vegas, or posing in front of Sleeping Beauty castle with our mom at Disneyland.  I will admit that sometimes I do go back and read our old race recaps and I just smile! Sometimes I re-read things that I have forgotten about and appreciate the fact that we have documented it on the blog.

So with that being said, I want to take this opportunity to share with you that we have updated our Race Page here on the blog. I know many of you read blogs on your mobile devices (I do it too), and on mobile devices you can't see the tabs at the top of the blog (if it's mobile friendly).  So, what I am saying is that we have a Race Page and that you should go check it out!

And speaking of races, even though we make a big deal about destination races, there are some great local races that I want to check out this summer.  The hoopla might not be as exciting and the medal might not be as large but I'll still have my family there to celebrate with and hey, Baylee might even show up at a race or two! Can't beat that!

We are linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. I've run several destination races (all of my half marathons were, originally, and all of my marathons before Chicago!). There is something so fantastic about the experience! I will definitely go back and check out your post from yesterday!

  3. I think one of the best things about blogging (besides the community) is going back and reading old recaps. So much gets forgotten if it's not written down.

  4. It is SO fun to travel to races with friends and family. One of my favorite racecations was to Chicago for the Chicago Marathon. My husband and son (when we only had 1 kid!) were there, my parents and my running partners and their families. It was a huge crew and tons of fun.

  5. I want to do a destination race so bad but I'm so scattered brain in life I'm afraid it would be a hot mess of stress.
I think I may need to start small - like just a city over or something.

  6. I enjoy destination races too. I think it makes sense to combine a race with places we want to go for vacation anyway :)

    1. For sure. I wouldn't want to do a race some place I had no intentions of visiting.

  7. You guys have done the best races! I really enjoy a destination race. I just with my Hubby would run with me so he'd like it more too.

  9. I want to do the Las Vegas RnR one day, maybe next year. Racecations leave me exhausted, but they're so worth it.

  10. I love destination races, but I also fear them. Mentally it can be a challenge to add a new city plus a race at the same time for me- which is why I tend to repeat the ones I know and love already. Or go run someplace I've visited before. I'm working on that brave though! ;)

  11. The only problem I have with local races is it's too easy to skip them! You know, you wake up and it's a little cold, or a little rainy, or a little hot . . .when I travel, I'm RUNNING;). Great post!

  14. Having family and friends to cheer you on definitely adds its own kind of hoopla for local races. :)

  19. I agree with you, destination races are about so much more than the actual race! It's the whole experience that I love, like you said you make so many memories and get a chance to take a nice little vacation.

  20. After 6 years of running pretty locally, it's been fun starting to run outside our circle of comfort. The Hubs and I are really starting to enjoy destintation races. Now rather than a week vacation, it feels like we are always vacationing with the addition of a RACE over many weekends. It's a win-win for me. :) Thanks for all that you share.
