Tracking with a MisFit

Earlier this week I mentioned that I was participating in a Fitness Challenge at work and that I received a free tracking device.  I am probably the only Fitness blogger that does not own a Fitbit. Even my husband has one but I never saw the point in tracking my steps or all that other data.  Since I started wearing my tracker, I've noticed that I really have to put some effort into reaching my 10,000 steps.  It's not as easy as I thought it would be.

The Fitness tracker that I was given is
called a MisFit.  My model is the Misfit Flash. I had never heard of it before our challenge but it's working out for me pretty well. I thought I'd share a little bit about the MisFit.

1. Like a FitBit, you need to Sync it to a mobile device. Since I have the new Blackberry, I can only pull up the app and see my current progress, I can not sync new progress made. For this reason, I have to use my ipad every time I want to sync or check my steps.

2.  Originally I planned on getting the bracelet for the MisFit. I wanted a reason to now buy the fitness charms...hehe.  However, I noticed that I was moving the tracker depending on which activity I was doing. If I run or ride bike, I clip it to my shoe. So perhaps getting a bracelet right now is not the best choice.

3. Our goal for the fitness challenge is to earn 1000 points each day. 1000 points is equivalent to 10,000 steps.  By pushing the center of the MisFit, you can see how close you are to reaching your goal. Red lights will light up around the MisFit. If half the red lights light up, you are half way to your goal. If all the red lights light up, than you have met your goal.

4. You can select different activities to track. It not only does walking and running, but also yoga, biking, swimming, tennis and others. I always have mine set to walking.  Like a FitBit, you can also track your sleep.

5. The MisFit does not need to be charged. It runs on a watch Battery.

I only started using the MisFit but it appears you can do lots more than just what I have shared here. you can use it as a watch, to control your music, or even use as a remote to take selfies with your phone (I have not used it for any of these things though).   The MisFit is actually a fraction of the cost of a Fitbit.  I never thought I would enjoy a fitness tracker but I have to admit it is pretty cool and I am more determined now to meet my goal each day.

  1. Sounds pretty cool. I have the iFit, which I like, but I miss the interactive aspect that all my fitbit friends mention.

    1. I forgot to mention that there is actually an interactive aspect with this one and you can compete with friends.

  2. I thought I was the only Fitness Blogger without a Fitbit :-) After reading this post, it makes me want to get one to see what I am logging during the course of a day and improve upon it. Thanks for sharing!!

    1. I thought I was very active during the day but once I got the Misfit I realized how much more I had to do.

  3. I have a vivofit which also runs on a battery. I really like that I don't have to charge it! i feel like my husband is always charging his fitbit.

  4. I think the competitive portion where you are in a group and challenge each other is really fun. For some reason I have not gotten a daily tracking device, but everyone I know uses them and loves them. The Fitbit seems to be the most popular one.

    1. I didn't think I would care much for it either but it is sort of fun. I'm doing a challenge now but later I'll just be in competition with myself!

  5. Interesting to read someone else's thoughts on the differences! I switched to Misfit from FitBit Zip and have mixed thoughts. I've nearly lost my Misfit more than once with the clip attachment, so be careful. I like that this one is waterproof, so that is awesome. However, I'm kinda torn, because i felt Fitbit had more friendly competition, bc more friends were on it. Misfit feels a little lonely. Not sure where I'll end up in the future there. I did a little comparison of the two on my site back when i first started using the Misfit, if you're interested in reading!

  6. You are not the only person without a fitbit because I don't have one either! I don't need it. Too much info.

    1. Yea, it does give you a lot of info that I will never do anything with!

  7. I have a Vivofit and I'm honestly very happy with it. Not that I really need to count my steps, but I feel like you learn a lot about the way you move throughout the day or even week. It also encouraged me to move more when I was pregnant and feeling under the weather. :)

  8. I don't have a Fitbit or other tracking devices. I think it'd be neat to see how many steps I did at a museum, Disney park, or walking around a city on vacation, but it's not enough for me to get one.

    1. Oh, good idea. I'll definitely take it next time I go to Disney!

  9. You know I'm all intrigued by fitness trackers. But I'm confused about how this doesnt show anything. I'm not a fan that you NEED a phone to see your results. But I do like it runs on a watch battery.

    1. Yea, I don't think it ever shows any numbers but the lights are suppose to be an indicator of how far you have yet to reach your goal.

  10. Wow, that's really cool about all the other things that you can do with it! It sounds almost like a smart watch.

  11. I think that is a cool looking tracker, but I confess - I don't want to get all caught up in that 10,000 steps craze. Some days I run (and walk) a lot, some days I sit and knit...and I need to be able to do both without guilt.

  12. That's pretty cool. I like having my tracker, but on non-run days, it can be pretty hard to get in the steps. Well, not hard as much as definitely takes effort beyond my "normal" day activities.

    1. I agree completely! On days I don't run I definitely have to put more effort into getting to 10,000 steps.

    1. Yea, I do like that you can clip it on your shoe or clothes or you can buy some accessories for it and wear it like jewelry.

  14. I don't have an activity tracker either, so you're not alone! I've been wondering if I should take the plunge and get one so I may look into this one. I feel like I could probably use something to remind me to get up and walk more during the day at work.

  15. I don't have a FitBit! I figure I get my steps in by running so what's the point? :) Just another piece of technology to drive me batty. Haha.

    1. I definitely get my steps in by running but this has kept me accountable on days that I don't run.

  16. I have a fit bit and while I am not obsessive about reaching 10 000 per day, it has really helped me realize how much walking I do / or don't do ! It is hard for me to get in this 10 000 every day.

  17. That's a really nice tracker! I hope it helps you stay motivated.

  18. I love it - we are having a Step Challenge at work in May too - what a great way to get employees engaged in their health! I can't wait! I will be using my Garmin Vivosmart, which I am kind of in love with.

  19. I just recently got the Fitbit Alta even though I had previously thought it was so unnecessary. Especially since I have wear an Apple Watch. But turns out I love the Fitbit! And it is definitely surprising how challenging it can actually be to get 10,000 steps!

  20. Oooh! A remote selfie button! Someone needs to add that to my vivoactive! Although actually I don't think that would work.

I don't have a fitbit. That's why when I got a new Garmin, I chose the vivoactive -- it's a garmin & fitness tracker all rolled into one. And a lot more. I chose it over the 235 because I can swim with it (not that I've swum recently).

I don't sweat the days that I don't get to 10,000. Most of the time, unless I'm traveling, I get pretty close. Having a dog to walk helps a lot! And my average daily steps per week are 13 - 15k (remember, I don't work in an office!).

  21. I love learning about new fitness equipment! Thanks for the review. I was into the fitbit for a while but got too frustrated

  22. You are not the only blogger without a FitBit because I don't have one either! I have an Apple Watch but I don't even use that to track my fitness. I'm ok with that.

  23. I used to wear a FitBit and when I first got it, I thought it would be easy to get 10,000 steps too. I was teaching then and thought I walked way more than that. Turns out, I just stood on my feet A LOT ;) I like my Apple watch but miss the FitBit friendly challenges. Does MisFit have challenges?

    1. Right now I'm doing a challenge with my work but Misfit does have a "community" that you can be a part of that I assume you can participate in other challenges.

  24. I've had a Fitbit for over a year, and I love it! Like everybody else, I didn't realize how much sitting I did.

What are the prices for the fitness challenge? I think I'm going to suggest something like that to the company I work for, and hope it will motive others to move more!

  25. I'm another fitness blogger who does not own a tracking device, either! This is super helpful information about the MisFit. I always thought 10,000 steps would be easy to achieve, but I'm betting it's harder than I realize, too, since I spend so much time sitting at a computer every day. I'm really glad to hear it's inspired you to hit your goals every day!
