Our Running Lately

Since we both just completed our first race for Spring, we thought we would talk about our running lately.

To be honest, this whole year has been really up in the air and we hadn't really made concrete plans for our race calendar.

The only thing we really planned and trained for in advance was the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend and that was a success.

So far here is what we've done.

1. WDW Half marathon and Marathon
2. Rock N Roll Dallas
3. April Fools - Recap coming soon

For me personally, this past training cycle (for the marathon) was all about
gaining strength and being able to run injury free.  I have not felt my IT band injury in several month (Hallelujah!!!), so I think I'm pretty clear here.  For this next training cycle I want to try to improve my race times. I'm not looking to PR, but I am hoping to get my times back down to my old PRs.  For that reason I am claiming the word "Pain Free" (although I know that is technically 2 words) to describe my running lately.  -M

I have been starting to hit more PRs and even placing in some larger races. Sometimes it's hard to talk about these things because I never want to sound like I am bragging or anything. I rarely make it a goal to PR and if it happens it happens but if it doesn't I'm okay with that because I just run because I love to do it. I'd keep running even if I never PRed or won anything. For that reason I am going to use "Love" as my word to describe my running lately. -L

So what's next for us?  We want to participate in some smaller races this Spring/Summer and then both of us will be heading to Disney for the Wine n Dine race weekend.  We've recruited a friend to run the Jingle Jungle 5k (her first one) so that has us very excited.  How has your running been going lately?  What are you looking forward to next?

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. Looks like you both have had some strong training! I'm hoping to finish Big Sur with a smile on my face. Then it will be some time off to rehab and let my foot heal. I'm going to start PT. Hopefully there will be a summer, fall, and December half...

  2. Yay for running injury free or hitting PRs! Very exciting.
I think I'm going to sign up for some fun summer races!

  3. Lacey! I wish you would "brag" more. I use it in quotation marks because it's not bragging. We come here to your blog to share in your accomplishments and of course offer support when things don't go as planned. If you would brag more, I wouldn't have to creep on race results to see how you did. ;)

Meranda, I'm glad your running is PAIN FREE! That is huge! My ITB has been holding up well but now that I have typed that sentence it will start to hurt again because that's how my luck goes hehe.

  5. Pain Free and Love are great words for running! It sounds like things are going well for both of you :) I've been a bit burned out with training but I'm hoping I can find fun in running again now that I'm done with training for a couple months.

  6. PF sounds good to me! I often to look to PR (of course it doesn't happen often), but I never look to place -- because that doesn't happen.

Maybe that's why I like to PR!

  7. I dont think the words "pain free" have ever been associated with running for me :) Such is life! Keep it up ladies! You two are so inspiring in your individual journey!

  8. Lacey, you should never feel like you can't brag about your accomplishments. We all want to celebrate your victories with you! Plus, its your blog. Feel free to brag away!

I don't think I realized that you ladies would also be running Wine and Dine. Hopefully I'll see you there over the course of the weekend!

  9. Lacey, go ahead a brag! I say, we are not competing with each other, and I would love to see your accomplishments along with numbers!

Meranda, Pain free is a wonderful thing to hear! I hope you stay pain free!!

  10. Sounds familiar....times aren't quite what I'd like lately but finally running pain free. Hoping that means I can do more speed work and get back to my 2 hour half marathons and not go over like I did last fall. We'll see. Testing it out this weekend with a hilly half (probably not a good one to expect sub 2 hours on!)

  11. I did the Glass Slipper Challenge in Feb plus the 5K, and now I am heading to do the Pixie Dust Challenge in Disneyland in 30 days. I am new to running- doing Tink for the first time last year. I am going to do the Disneyland Paris Inaugural race in Sept with my husband. I am doing interval training and it seems to be working so far.

  19. I definitely think your injury is a thing of the past. Having fun running, and not putting pressure on yourself sounds like an awesome thing to do, especially trying a few smaller races later this year!
Lacey, your too modest:) That's awesome too, I see you as a person who trains pretty hard and well on a consistant basis, so it doesn't surprise me you're placing in larger races, very cool!

  20. Pain free and love are great things to be feeling about your running! Lacey, I'd never think you were bragging if you talked about your PRs. I love hearing about others' accomplishments and successes!

  22. Running injury free is so important, so it's great that you are focusing on that.

  23. Glad to hear your injury's not slowing you down. You've reminded me that I need to do a better job of planning the upcoming season. I have a few races in mind and have even signed up for a couple, but I need to become a better planner. Hope you stay healthy!

  24. Happy to hear that both of you are doing real well! Nothing beats pain free running and PR's. Lacey - you earned those times so don't be afraid to brag a little!

  25. Sounds like you're both in a really great place with your running! Congrats! Hard work definitely pays off!

  26. I'd love to be pain free, but I'm putting in the hard work to get there. Nothing ever came easy, and I'm hoping this all pays off.

  27. Sounds like you are both in a good place, running-wise. Running strong, feeling good and heck yeah to some PRs too are all great things. THanks for linking up!

  28. I am seriously looking forward to running some smaller Spring & Summer races. And even some shorter or lesser raced distances too. It sounds so petty, but after coming up just a wee bit short of placing in my age group at 2 different races I REALLY want to get out there and win one. But, I need a smaller race to fit that bill.

  29. It sounds like you guys have a fun year ahead! I definitely feel you on being pain-free...I've been pretty healthy for awhile but I still get nervous and have that in the back of my mind!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wine and Dine will be so much fun! I've got a pretty packed race calendar so far (will be announced next week), but am really looking forward to the Tinker Bell Half next month. My goal is to do one half marathon (as a training run) a month in preparation for Chicago and NYC Marathons.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like both of your words! My running is improving and I hope to get back to some old PR times too, and pain free of course.

  32. Sounds like a great start to the year for both of you! Can't wait to hear about your W&D experience with the new time. Congrats to your friend on signing up for her first 5k. She's got great ladies to run with! ;)

  33. Wine and Dine would be so fun.
I think I will be doing a Disney race in 2017.

  34. Pain free running is great! and so is happy running! I have one more half this spring then just a few 5K's over the summer to keep moving. I am looking forward to some fun fall races!

  38. Celebrate your PRs! (it's not 'bragging' especially when you worked hard for it) And hooray to 'Pain Free' running. This year has been going well with my running - I feel strong and confident. Have one more formal training block for RNR San Diego Half in June and will be taking a month of recovery in the summertime.

  39. Both are great words, L-I'm with you, I may not ever PR again but I'm having fun. M-I'll give your ITB an Amen Sista! Mine's been quiet too. Let's hope it stays that way as well. Great job ladies!
