The races I am dreaming about are not Disney ones, are not at the beach, and are not International ones. I have my sights set a little smaller. What I really want to do are some local 5K's. I've notice that there are quite a few 5K's this summer over at City Island.

I would love to do the Pirate 5K. The medal itself is great and how cool would it be to do a Pirate 5K on an island? This race takes place on July 18 and sadly I don't think I'll be ready then and even if I am, is it really smart to be racing right away?
There are a few other 5K's that will take place at City island this summer and they are put on by U.S Road Running. They usually put on some really great themed races! My dad and I raced the Movie Madness race with them a few years ago and this is the race he took first in his age group! I'm hoping that we can find a way to run another one together sometime this summer.
Isn't it funny how having such a severe injury can change your perspective on things. While the rest of my running friends are dreaming of Disney races, running through Paris, or maybe Las Vegas, my only hope is to be able to run a 5K this summer and I don't even know if that's too much to hope for!
What are you hoping for this summer? -M
I am hoping for fall to hurry up and get here so I can run races again without wanting to die ; )
ReplyDeleteBeing injured is the worst. Three years ago I had a stress fracture, and as soon as I recovered from that I got Lyme disease. I didn't do much running that year and it made me really sad. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're injury free soon! It's funny how things like that can really get us back to appreciating the basics.
ReplyDeleteThat medal is great! And imagine the costume possibilities.
ReplyDeleteWe can't do many 5K's in Dallas in the summer as it's just too darn hot! But I so hope that you can heal quickly and do one this summer! Awesome pirate medal!
ReplyDeleteMost of the big races in the UK tend to be in the summer, but I much prefer racing in Autumn. I can't wait for the cooler weather to get here.
ReplyDeleteI love 5ks. We don't have much of anything the month of July or August. I can't wait till you are back and do your first 5k!

Aw man I thought you meant the pirate 5k in Pittsburgh (as in, the pittsburgh pirates baseball team!) 5ks are so much fun and a great starting point to test your fitness after recovering from an injury. You're really smart to take it easy and not rush back in! Wishing you a speedy recovery :)
ReplyDeleteI am hoping my next Saturday morning race is at less than 98% humidity! yes, things change quickly, you will be back before you know it!
ReplyDeleteI think any dream is a good dream and I bet yours comes true!
ReplyDeleteLoving the pirate medal that is just awesome !!!
Oh, that is a cute medal. I've done one pirate race and the medal was a pirate ship. You'll be racing soon! Keep dreaming. That's what helps us get through those times when we can't run.
ReplyDeleteI love that medal! I hope you find a local race that fits within your timeframe. I've looked at the US Road Running site & saw they have some pretty cool races.
ReplyDeleteI would love to focus on some 5K races after my marathon in the fall!
ReplyDeleteHoping you get that injury free race! That Pirates 5K medal looks adorable!
