Running isn't the only thing going on at Disney!

If you've read our post yesterday than you are familiar with the things we are excited about for the month of February.  One of those things includes going to Disney for the Princess Half Marathon weekend of races but did you know that February is the start of another sport at Disney?
This is why I thought this picture would be perfect for Deb's Wordless Wednesday theme which is "February Calendar Shot".

The Atlanta Braves do their Spring Training right at Champion Stadium up at the Wide World of Sports Complex.  If you are going to the Fit for a Princess Expo you might as well take a minute to visit the stadium and poke your head in. You might get a glimpse of your favorite players.  ( If you are lucky, you may get one of them to sign something for you. We've seen it done before). We look forward to visiting the stadium every year. One year we got to see the players get their pictures taken for that season's baseball cards!

Last year we were lucky enough to watch the Atlanta Braves play our favorite team!
We chose to go to the baseball game on Saturday after the 5K race instead of going to a park and we had a blast! I would not hesitate to go to another game here!

This game may have been the reason the Fit For a Princess Race Expo was moved to Coronado Springs last year. Also, there was a soccer game going on at the same time which may have contributed to that area being over crowded.

February schedule ( for those who are sticking around after the half marathon)

Feb 26: Atlanta Braves vs Detroit Tigers 1:05 pm
Feb 28: Atlanta Braves vs Houston Astros 6:05 pm
To see the rest of the pre-season schedule click HERE.

We knew that we wanted to watch the Yankees play so we bought our tickets a few months ahead of time. However, you should be able to buy tickets at the box office (off to the left as you enter the Wide World of Sports Complex) based on availability.

If you are a sports fan, you won't want to miss the ESPN Clubhouse shop that is beside the box office.  They have quite a few pieces of official Run Disney merchandise ( that is not sold at the expo). This is where I got my Run Disney Jacket that I love so much. ( I'll show you on Friday).

Feel free to read our post about the day we went to the baseball game HERE. I talk about what we had to do as far as transportation ( when you don't have a car), and what it was like to be at a ball game at Disney World!

Do you like baseball? Have you ever taken the time to visit Champion Stadium?

Thanks again to Deb for hosting the Wednesday Blog Hop!

  1. I never would have considered watching a preseason baseball game during a race weekend. What a fun idea. That would be a great diversion for a race weekend and it keeps you off your feet.

    1. Exactly! Just make sure that if you are running a race the following day that you choose seats that are covered (or out of direct sun) because you don't want to have been sitting in the sun all day!

  7. I'm always amazed at all the things Disney has going on that doesn't even involve their parks... so much to do! So little time :)

    1. I agree! There is SO much to do outside of the theme parks. We don't do a whole lot of park hopping during race weekend so it's nice to find those other things to do.

  8. More than a few years back I saw the Detroit Tigers Spring Training there... it was a ton of fun! Something I would do again if I was there at the right time and my team was playing :)

  12. Huge baseball fan here! Love love love this idea! I've always cheered for the astros (although not so much these past two years), but I never say no to a game! Unfortunately, we will have already left disney at this point. Oh well, great idea!! :D

  13. I'm so excited that baseball season is right around the corner, because that also means that spring and summer are closer as well. My husband and I flew down to Tampa a couple of years back, part of which was to enjoy a Spring Training game. Going to a baseball game during a race weekend sounds like a perfect way to both enjoy all that Florida has to offer in the late winter as well as a great way to relax before/after races.

  16. That looks like fun! Seeing a game out there is one of the things we've never gotten around to doing. But I did serve Chipper Jones a latte once when I was a local. LOL!
