Motivational Monday

So as many ladies ( and some gentleman) are starting to taper for the Disney Princess half marathon weekend of races, I am not.  I feel like I've fallen behind on my running due to my knee/leg injury so I am going to keep running to try to build up my mileage and my strength. I'll be using this weekend of races as a "fun training" run because I have something "bigger" that I am training for this spring!

Although my pain has not completely healed, it has started to feel better. I did an entire hour on the treadmill on Friday night without stopping and felt little pain. I think I have found something that makes my treadmill running a little more exciting!

I've been watching my Sex and the City DVDs.  I got this box set as a Christmas gift one year and although I've watched the entire box several times, it is still entertaining! ( I admit that the earlier episodes are a little too raw and aren't as good as the later episodes).

Also this weekend I received my Camelbak pouch, so this motivated to get a long run in outside. ( I'll talk a little more about this pouch later).

After doing an hour on the treadmill on Friday, I wanted to get out of the house and do an hour outside on Saturday.  Side Note: When I run on the treadmill I focus more on time than I do on distance. I know when I run outside I can run twice as far in the same amount of time. So my plan was to just run for an hour and see how far I get.

We ran on the campus of a university near my home. It was a great run but very hilly! About forty minutes into the run my right leg/knee started to get really tight and I couldn't run like I had been. I did a little more walking than I had wanted to at that point but I continued to get my hour in.

I haven't been able t do more than 6.2 miles since this pain started. I am a bit worried, but I know I will have my mom running PHM with me and if I have to walk the additional 6.9 miles, I know she will walk it with me!   I am going back to the Chiropractor today, so I am hopefully that things will start turning around for me for good and I can start getting some higher mile runs in very soon!

How were you motivated this weekend? What did you do?

  1. Keep up the great work - that seems like fantastic progress being able to run without pain on the treadmill!

I enjoy the Sex and the City show as well. Definitely a funny/entertaining show!

    1. Thanks Lauren. I think I have little pain on the treadmill because I am inside and it is not cold. It seems the cold really bothers my leg/knee.

  2. Great job! I'm so glad the pain is improving!! Love having a fun show to watch while on the treadmill. It sure makes the miles go by faster!

    1. The pain is definitely not as intense but it is still bothersome and is slowing me down!

  3. I'm glad you were able to run an hour! I was going to keep amping up my training as well since I never got to 12 like I intended, but the weeks that I have rested have really helped me and I don't think running more in the next couple weeks will really help at this point. I'm as ready as I'm gonna be I think! I'm so glad you'll have your mom and I know you'll finish, you've done this before! :)

    1. Ahh, thanks Karen! If I hadn't already ran 13.1 I'd be a bit nervous, but I know even if I have to walk i'll get it done!

  5. Good progress on the running!
This weekend I got in a long run and it felt really good! Other than that I did no other running! haha. But I was okay with this!

  6. I was planning on doing 14 today...but instead, I opted for 10 this morning so that my legs will be fresh for the race day in two weeks. I hope the chiropractor helps you out and that you will be pain free on race day!!

    1. Thanks Rachel, me too. I think doing only 10 miles will be fine!

  7. We are in the same boat! I was supposed to be my longest run, 12, this past weekend, but I really took the time off to help with pain I've been having! I'm going to try and do 10 this weekend, instead of doing a taper back down to 8. We'll see how that goes :/

And if I had a treadmill, SATC would be my "drug" of choice, too!

    1. Perhaps I should have taken more time off. SATC is more enjoyable from my couch anyway!

    1. Thank you Courtney! I'm looking forward to being in the warmth. Maybe that's all my leg needs is to be out of the cold!

  10. So sorry you are still having trouble with your leg/knee. Hopefully you can still enjoy Princess and your time in WDW. I am not going for a time during the Princess Half either but am using it as a training run. See you soon!

  11. Listen to your body during the race. Walking some is better than not running for months after - I've done it :( I will also always love SITC, I'm embarrassed to think how many times I've watched the episodes! Good theory on the treadmill. I go by distance, then end up bored or frustrated at myself for not running faster. I got 9 in this weekend. I have the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail Half Marathon at the end of March!

    1. Yes, it is much easier on me (mentally) when I know I am only running for a certain amount of time on the TM. Good luck with your own training!

  14. I'm sorry your leg is still bothering you! It is so frustrating when your body doesn't do what you want it to.

I was really motivated when it came to running this weekend - I got in 10 miles. And that was pretty much all I was motivated to do. Having the treadmill in the basement has kept me from missing any runs since I got it. The rest of the weekend was spent doing as little as possible.

  15. Ack, sorry your leg is bothering you! That can be so frustrated. Definitely nothing wrong with walking part of the way -- you're going to have a blast, no matter what!

  20. I feel your pain...literally. I haven't been able to run since I did my half because of a major calf strain/nerve/pull..I have no idea what it is really! Please walk if you need to and take care of yourself! :)

  21. SATC is my fave and I never tire of watching that show! It still resonates today :)

  22. Sounds like you're getting in some great runs before your race. And congratulations in advance on running the Disney Princess half marathon!!! That would be so cool... the Disney marathon is on my bucket list :) I hope the chiropractor gets you all fixed up!

This weekend I ran a very cold 6-miler and I was motivated by the fact that I had a babysitter for my son! This winter has been too cold to take him out with me in the jogger (and I don't think it would go very well pushing through snow anyways).

    Have a great upcoming race!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Amy! Yes, I would imagine pushing a jogging stroller through snow would be difficult!

  23. I hope you were able to get some more help from the Chiropractor! It's probably very discouraging to have the injury, but even if you have to walk in the race I think you'll still have a great time! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed you can get back to normal and full health soon so you can feel good going into the race and have a great time!!!
