Runners Re-organize!

Since we had a snow day/Cold day one of the days last week, I decided to get organized for the new year! One of the things that drives me crazy is an unorganized pantry. I don't have a small kitchen but I do have a small pantry. I am one of those people who has certain shelves for certain products: ( all can goods go on one shelf, all cereal on one shelf, you get the picture?)  I want to easily be able to find my post run snacks when I get back to my house!

But I couldn't stop there. I went around to the hall closet and gave that a mini makeover as well.  A few years ago I purchased one of these over the door hanger things.  ( I think it is suppose to hold shoes, but we use to hold all that extra stuff that we feel needs to be in our foyer)

This works great for me because now when I go for a run, I know everything I need is right in the one pocket.
I can easily stuff my I-pod, Garmin, gloves, hat, and road ID right there by the door!

And since I was gifted with new clothes for the holidays, both fitness and real clothes ( Note: only runners would call everyday clothes "Real Clothes" don't you agree?) I decided that I had to reorganize my dressing room.

                                                        BEFORE

Notice how messy the shelves are?

AFTER

I don't know why I spend my precious time organizing my clothes by color, but it makes me happy!

All the fitness clothes that were once stuffed into the shelves on the right hand side are now nicely organized in this sweater hanger.

Now I can organize my clothes by type. One pouch has running tanks, one has long sleeve running tops, one has compression capris, one has running shorts, you get the pictures!

Okay, now that I have organized my post run snacks, running gear, and fitness clothes ( and real clothes), what should I go and organize next?

Have you ever been in full on organization mode? What room in your home needs the most organization?

  1. Great work on the reorganization. Must feel great? I love the "after" and the feeling of accomplishment. I need to sort my running stuff properly. I like your trick with the bags on the door.

  3. Great job with the organization! I like how you showed us the before and after shots. I've been procrastinating organizing the garage. Sometimes, I wish we had snow days or something similar in SoCal to get me in an organizing mode.

  4. Oh my gosh, we're so much alike! I have a small kitchen though AND a small pantry. But I like have certain shelves for certain things! With both the kitchen and pantry being limited in space, I find my pantry always gets disorganized. I hate it and dream for the day that we move into a bigger house. But that won't happen until after we are married. Love the organization!

    1. I try to keep it organized but once in a while someone will come along and put something on the "wrong" shelf!

  5. Nice work! I love when I get in re-organizing moods. The apartment always looks great afterwards! In fact, I need to make some more room for my running stuff. Thanks for the organization inspiration!

  6. It's not a room, but my dresser. I think I need a new, bigger one, but the two main drawers for clothes are so unorganized, it's driving me nuts. The first one is for real clothes, but the second is split between real clothes and running gear, and that's the messier of the two.

    1. I know what you mean Lesley. I use to just shove clothes in the drawer and they were always unorganized. I like putting my folded stuff on these shelves now!

  7. I love organizing my house; and I hang my clothes by color, too! The room that gives me the most trouble is our spare bedroom/drum room, because it's a mishmash of everyone's junk, and I can't figure out what to do with it. Just my junk? I'm pretty good at culling out stuff, but I have a hard time doing that with my family member's stuff.

  8. Looks good! I need to get in organization mode. I'd have to start with the garage and work my way to the closets. I love the different organizing gadgets you can buy, but I feel like sometimes they take up more room than the actual 'stuff' you're trying to get a handle on. A purge definitely needs to take place around here.

  11. I love organizing! I usually get into organize mode when I have vacation from work. We just did a HUGE overhaul of our basement storage area. That is what needed it the most and I vow to never let it get so disorganized again!

  15. Ha, wow you got serious on your organization! I like my pantry to be organized and my closet and dresser drawers! My apartment is small though so I kind of have to be I feel, or else stuff would be everywhere

  16. Nice work! I did my fridge and pantry and donated a bunch of stuff out of my closet and the linen closet but I still need a better solution for running stuff. Maybe putting skirts in the stacking thing like you have is better than trying to hang them.

  17. Looks great, and I'm sure you're loving it.

Yup, I always hate thinking about organizing things, until the URGE hits - you know what I mean - and then it's all over. Recently I corralled all of my running accessories (gloves, hats, belts, watches, garmin, RoadID, etc) into a shoebox so it's easy to just chuck it in there when I'm done. I'm very happy with that. I've still gotta go through my running clothes now and see which ones I want/need to upgrade. :)

  20. Nice job! I love the idea of all the running gadgets in one place. I'm always running around trying to figure out where I left everything. I need to go to Target to get a new shoe organizer because mine just broke, now everything is sitting in a big pile on my closet floor. :(

  22. Oh my god I really need to do this! This post was super motivating. Right now my running clothes are kind of organized...kind of. I have a 3 drawer plastic bin thing that currently houses all of my summer running clothes and waterproof hiking stuff, and then a pile of all of my winter running stuff on the floor next to it! It's driving me crazy that I have nowhere to put the stuff I use the most! I definitely need to buy some new organizers and do this asap!

  23. I love this post. My boyfriend and I are going to tear out our closets this weekend and put in new organization from IKEA. I'm looking forward to being more organized (hopefully it stays that way). Love the idea of the shoe organizer for all the running stuff. Right now mine just gets tossed in a drawer. Good idea to have a centrally located place for everything thats easy to see!

  24. GREAT organization!! I have a sweater organizer that I separate my clothes into like you do! :)

  25. Love it! I'm crazy about organization! I use a shoe bag for hats, gloves, scarves, etc. in my hall closet and I have a small bin that holds running odds and ends (fuel belt, shoelaces, etc.) and it is over-flowing. It could use a little organization OCD. ;) -C
